We don’t guess. A repair starts with a proper diagnostic — gauges on the system, electrical checks, a look at the coil, drain, filters and control board — so we find the actual fault before quoting. The diagnostic call-out is about $120–$180 and we put it toward the repair if you go ahead. You get the repair cost up front; nothing happens without your okay.
Common Sunshine Coast faults.
- Not cooling / low on gas — a refrigerant leak; we find and fix the leak, then regas (just topping up wastes money)
- Iced-up or filthy coil — common in our humidity; restricts airflow and cooling
- Failed capacitor or fan motor — unit hums but won’t start, or outdoor fan won’t spin
- Control PCB fault — error codes, intermittent operation, no response to the remote
- Blocked condensate drain — water dripping from the indoor head or ceiling outlet (very common in the wet season)
- Compressor failure — the big one; we’ll be straight with you on repair-versus-replace
Realistic 2026 repair price bands.
After the diagnostic, most repairs land between $180 and $950 depending on the part and brand. A regas (once the leak is fixed) is usually $200–$450. A capacitor, fan motor or control board sits mid-range; a compressor or coil replacement is at the top — and on an older unit that’s where we’ll give you an honest repair-or-replace recommendation rather than spending your money on a unit near the end of its life.
Why we don’t cut corners.
Refrigerant work on every repair must be done under an ARCtick Refrigerant Handling Licence — releasing refrigerant or working on a gas circuit unlicensed is a Commonwealth offence, and a bodged regas without finding the leak just empties your wallet again next summer. Electrical fault rectification is handled by a licensed electrician to AS/NZS 3000. We fix the cause, not just the symptom, and if your unit is still under manufacturer warranty we’ll tell you so you can claim it.
